Tweeting for Tech in Georgia Association Competition

The Technology Association of Georgia has proven it is a nationwide force in the tech sector, tweet by tweet.

Playing on the popularity of March Madness, the Technology Association used Twitter to engage its audience and spread its message, in what amounted to a statewide tweet-off.

The association, known as TAG, pitted top technology tweeters against each other, challenging each to craft a message his or her followers would retweet en masse.

Fittingly, the The University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Comm (@UGAGrady) emerged victorious, by earning 601 retweets, but not before the tournament drove more than 2,500 tweets and retweets, and sparked more than 2,000 unique video views.

“The social media contest was a brilliant way to drive awareness of Georgia’s important technology sector,” said Sherrie Whaley, Grady’s director of communications and @UGAGrady account administrator.

Sixteen of Georgia’s top technology tweeters, which were selected by committee, squared off in tweet-to-tweet matches where each player had only one tweet per round. That tweet had to include #WhereGALeads and a link to TAG’s latest video, GEORGIA: The Future for Technology. Once the player tweeted, it was up to his or her followers to retweet the original post. The player with the most retweets over the next 24 hours advanced to the next round.

TAG has14,000 members, representing 1,600 tech and tech-enabled companies, with a mission of making Georgia friendly to tech business.
