11.11.11 Cable Nets Carry Obama Wreath Laying at Arlington National Cemetery

The cable networks all broadcast live the annual Veterans Day wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery. But this year’s ceremony, followed by a speech from Pres. Obama, occurred at the 11th hour of the 11th day of 2011: 11/11/11.

The wreath was presented at the Tomb of the Unknowns at 11:06am followed by the playing of Taps.

Pres. Obama leaves for San Diego this afternoon where he will deliver remarks on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson. The President will also do interviews with Jim Gray of Westwood One and Andy Katz of ESPN during the Carrier Classic college basketball game on the flight deck of the Carl Vinson.

Damien Woody Is The Latest ESPN NFL Hire

Former NFL offensive lineman Damien Woody is the latest to join ESPN as an NFL analyst.

The 12-year veteran, who announced his retirement from the league Friday, will appear on SportsCenter, NFL Live, First Take and ESPNEWS.

“I’m grateful for all the support over the years from my family, my fans, and the league,” said Woody. “I’m excited to start the next phase of my career, moving from the NFL family to the ESPN family, and I feel blessed to continue to be a part of the game of football.”

Woody will make his ESPN debut next month.

Earlier this week, ESPN hired former coach Eric Mangini and ex-defensive end Hugh Douglas.

Los Angeles Dodgers Offering Free Tickets To Military Members During The Month Of May

Looking for some positive publicity, Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda announced Monday that the Los Angeles Dodgers were offering free tickets to all military members during the month of May.

All members of the joint services with a valid military ID, including active, reserve and retired veterans as well as their dependents, may take advantage of this offer by showing their military ID at any Dodger Stadium ticket booth day of game. Each military ID will be good for two complimentary tickets, based on availability, and more details are listed at www.dodgers.com/military.

Lasorda, who served in the Army from 1945-1947, made the announcement one day after President Obama announced the death of Osama bin Laden.

 

Seton Hall's Kevin Willard Joins March Madness On Demand Coverage

Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard will serve as a guest analyst for March Madness on Demand’s coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.

Willard will work the Second Round games on Thursday and Friday. All games will be available on MMOD, which is available on NCAA.com, CBSSports.com and SI.com.

In addition, every game will be available nationally on live television across CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV.

Buffalo News Reporter Gets Locked Inside Nassau Coliseum

Of the hundreds of arenas I would hate being locked inside, the Nassau Coliseum is at the top of the list.

Buffalo News reporter Mike Harrington had the unfortunate experience of getting locked inside the home of the New York Islanders last weekend.

Roughly 90 minutes after wrapping up interviews, the Buffalo Sabres beat reporter was ready to take off and head to John F. Kennedy airport, only to realize that the arena was practically empty. Read more
