Condoleezza Rice Joins CBS News as a Contributor

Bob Schieffer just announced that one of his guests on “Face the Nation” this morning, Condoleezza Rice, has joined CBS News as a contributor to the network.

“Everybody knows Condoleezza Rice was President Bush’s Secretary of State but I’m highly pleased to announce she has a new job. As of today, she’s joining CBS News as a contributor,” said Schieffer.

Rice is also currently a professor of Political Science at Stanford University where she was provost from 1993-1999.

Newt Gingrich Endorsed by New Hampshire Union Leader

Newt Gingrich‘s endorsement by the New Hampshire Union Leader today is a hot topic on the Sunday talk shows (except “Face the Nation” which was not live but instead was a conversation with best-selling authors, including Condoleezza Rice whose No Higher Honor is #5 this week). The second part of a two-part interview with the former Secretary of State was also to run on CNN’s “State of the Union with Candy Crowley” but the segment was shelved as Crowley interviewed the Union-Leader’s Editorial Page editor Drew Cline. The first part of Rice’s interview, which was taped Nov. 18, aired last Sunday.

In 1999, the Union-Leader endorsed Steve Forbes for president. As Playbook points out this morning, publisher Joseph McQuaid told Howard Kurtz at the time that George W. Bush was an “empty suit.”

CNN’s Piers Morgan Reveals his First Week of Guests on ‘Piers Tonight’

CNN’s Piers Morgan announced his first week of guests this morning. The show premieres one week from tonight.

We knew his first guest was going to be Oprah Winfrey — scheduled for Monday. Howard Stern — slated for Tuesday — has made his scheduled appearance on the show public by bashing “Piers Tonight” before the show has even started.

Other guests scheduled that week are former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (Wednesday), comedian and fellow Brit Ricky Gervais (Thursday). And to end the week on a handsome actor/humanitarian note, George Clooney is scheduled (Friday).

@piersmorgan tweeted this morning:

REVEALED: 1ST @PiersTonight WEEK: Mon: Oprah Tues: Howard Stern Weds: Condoleezza Rice Thurs: Ricky Gervais Fri: George Clooney.

Yes, that is “Access Hollywood”‘s Billy Bush in the studio — taken from EP of “Piers Tonight” Jonathan Wald‘s Twitpic. This is the first we’ve seen of the set.

Tony Snow’s Death: O’Reilly Tribute

snoworeilly_7-12.jpgFNC’s top anchor Bill O’Reilly paid tribute to Tony Snow tonight, anchoring a live special edition of The O’Reilly Factor.

Snow and O’Reilly were more than just former colleagues — Snow was the primary guest anchor for The Radio Factor, O’Reilly’s radio show.

He was also a frequent guest on O’Reilly’s TV show.

O’Reilly began his show with a personal tribute to Snow. “At first we sparred on the air, but we shared a traditional point of view, and a sense of how absurd life can be,” said O’Reilly. “He was one of President Bush’s best hires.”

O’Reilly’s first guest was Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
