Chris Matthews, Sean Hannity, Ashleigh Banfield in ‘House of Cards’ Second Season

In a new trailer released by Netflix for the hotly anticipated second season of “House of Cards,” MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield make cameos in Kevin Spacey‘s political thriller.

“So this goes all the way to the White House,” Matthews asks a guest on his “Hardball” set, asking about Spacey’s Frank Underwood’s illegal political wheeling and dealing.

Banfield interviews Underwood’s wife, wondering if their marriage is really what it appears beneath the surface.

“Some people think that your marriage may be a bit more calculated than you let on,” Banfield says to Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright.

TVNewser has also learned Sean Hannity and NBC News’ Kelly O’Donnell are set to make appearances in the second season.

Season two of “House of Cards” will be released February 14 on Netflix.

  • There’s no saucy langauge allowed at Al Jazeera America. A new employee in the New York City newsroom was reprimanded for using the “F” word recently, says Page Six. The employee was told that swearing is not part of the Al Jazeera culture.

  • CNBC has licensed the off-network cable rights to ABC’s “Shark Tank.” CNBC will begin airing re-runs of the show in January. As part of CNBC’s TV Everywhere offering, some episodes will be available on demand to authenticated subscribers.

  • NBC’s Andrea Mitchell has ponied up $10,000 to play tennis with actor Kevin Spacey. Mitchell bid on the match at auction at the Kevin Spacey Foundation gala Saturday night. Spacey plays underhanded Rep. Frank Underwood in the Netflix show “House of Cards.”

Fake News Anchor Will McAvoy Takes Home Real Emmy

Jeff Daniels EmmyJeff Daniels, who plays anchorman Will McAvoy on HBO’s “Newsroom” took home the Emmy for best actor in a drama tonight. Daniels wins the top award in his first year of eligibility. The second season of “Newsroom” concluded last Sunday and HBO has already given the green light for a season three. Daniels was up against tough competition from co-nominees “Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, “Mad Men’s” Jon Hamm, Damien Lewis of “Homeland,” Hugh Bonneville of “Downton Abbey” and Kevin Spacey of “House of Cards.”

Later, the “Colbert Report” took home two awards, including outstanding variety series, besting “The Daily Show” which had won the award for the last 10 years. “I personally have to thank my friend and my brother, Jon Stewart,” said Stephen Colbert. “Jon never told me how good this feels, actually.”

Colbert also won for outstanding writing for variety series. Since 2008, Colbert Report and The Daily Show have traded off winning the top writing award. Colbert won in 2008 and 2010, Daily Show won in 2009, 2011, and 2012.

Chris Matthews to host Bill Clinton special: ‘President of the World’

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is anchoring a President’s Day special on MSNBC three weeks from today titled “President of the World: The Bill Clinton Phenomenon.”

Matthews recently spent a week Bill Clinton, sitting down with him one-on-one for the special. The hour includes interviews with Clinton’s close friends including Tony Blair, Terry McAuliffe, Mary Steenburgen and Kevin Spacey. The special “will take viewers behind the scenes of Clinton’s life,” says the press release.

There’s not a single political figure today with the global reach and influence of Bill Clinton—a former U.S. President turned humanitarian and diplomat extraordinaire. No one else in today’s political arena has the ability to command the attention of world leaders and organizations everywhere quite like he does.
