The Morning Show Wars Meet Halloween

Next Wednesday is October 31, and you know what that means: serious news anchors wearing wacky costumes!

ABC is already out promoting “Ghoul Morning America,” promising costumes that will top last year’s, live musical performances and a “guest that you will be talking about all day.”

NBC’s “Today” has also been promoting its Halloween episode in promos all week, and is holding a contest which will see three viewers with great costumes flown to New York to appear on next Wednesday’s show. “Today” is also promising a surprise celebrity guest.

Last year the “Today” crew dressed as the U.K. royal family, while “GMA” had a “rock n roll” theme.

As for “CBS This Morning,” well, just like the “Early Show” crew last year, don’t expect to see Charlie Rose and Gayle King in any hilarious costumes.

This year’s Halloween specials will be the first since “GMA” surpassed “Today” in the ratings, so there is pressure to perform. Given how over-the-top “GMA” went last year, that pressure is likely even higher.
