Casper Anchors Swap Roles for April Fool’s Day Prank

Casper, WY, NBC affiliate KCWY had some fun with its viewers yesterday.

The station told everyone it was inspired by the recent upgrade in the set and operations and was “restructuring the station’s anchor team.”

Anchor Dean Johnson was moved to weather, sports anchor Frank Gambino and chief meteorologist Joel Barnes to news, and executive producer/news anchor Lydia Defranchi was movced to sports.

Defranchi won the anchor swap when she dropped a “Boom goes the dynamite” in the promo for her faux sportscast.

GM Nick Hessler got in on the fake quote act and probably had to soothe some ruffled feathers afterward when he said, “Joel is passionate about criminal justice, he’s been itching for a chance to cover local courts. Plus everybody knows Frank, so it only makes sense to capitalize on that star power. And we knew from the start that Lydia wasn’t much of a news anchor – her heart has always been elsewhere, and we’re happy to let her follow her dreams.”

KGWC General Manager Arrested for DUI After Accident Involving Former GM at Rival Station

K2TVGMPolice arrested Mark Nalbone, the general manager at KTWO KGWC in Casper, Wy., for DUI following a station fundraiser this weekend.

According to a report on rival KCWY, Nalbone was picked up after a three-car crash that involved former KCWY general manager Peggy Porter.

Nalbone said he drank two glasses of wine at the ABC affiliate’s “Dancing with the Stars of Casper” fundraiser, according to KCWY anchor Zach Pagano‘s report Monday:

Officers report Nalbone’s breath smelling of alcohol and his eyes bloodshot and glassy. Police gave Nalbone a field sobriety test at the scene of the crash then tested his blood alcohol content, which clocked in at .14, almost twice the legal limit.

Porter, who was the general manager at NBC affiliate KCWY for ten years before leaving in August, was treated at the Wyoming Medical Center and later released. According to KCWY, she says “she suffered from whiplash and is still sore.”

>Update: a KTWO-AM report identifies Nalbone as the general manager of CBS affiliate KGWC and a consultant for ABC affiliate KTWO and Fox affiliate KFNB. A station source in Casper tells TVSpy, “He is allegedly only a ‘consultant’ to [KTWO], but he runs it along with the Fox, CW, and CBS operations.”
