VIDEO: Shooting Erupts Outside WAVE Live Truck

WAVE reporter Jaimie Weiss and photographer James Thomas were covering a homicide in Louisville yesterday when another fatal shooting occurred just outside their live truck.

Three people died and three were wounded in the incident. As the shooting continued, Thomas shot video from just outside the live truck while Weiss called into the newsroom and reported on the events unfolding.

“They’re shooting out here. They’re shooting right where we are,” she said. “Everybody’s on the ground. It’s not safe for us to get out.” Watch inside… Read more

Spanish Language TV Host Frank Cairo Arrested for Allegedly Stealing His Neighbor’s Patio Furniture

A well-known Spanish language TV host accused of stealing his neighbor’s patio furniture was arrested yesterday in Miami.

Frank Cairo allegedly broke in to an apartment near his with Jorge Acuna Arias on April 29. The two men were caught on surveillance video, and the neighbors identified Cairo, whose real name is Ivan Valdes. Once the two were identified, police said Cairo left a note on the neighbors’ door saying he had the furniture.

As he was escorted into a police cruiser Thursday, Cairo paused to tell reporters that he has no need to steal “two chairs from Kmart” because he makes more than half a million dollars a year. Watch, via WSVN, after the jump… Read more

Bears Invade WNEP During 11 p.m. Newscast

WNEP had some unexpected visitors during its 11 p.m. newscast on Monday.

Just before meteorologist Kurt Aaron was to appear live from the station’s weather backyard on Monday night, four bears (one mother and three cubs) descended on the outdoor space.

“I ran like I stole something,” Aaron said during the newscast, after seeking safety indoors. “No offense, but I don’t want to be doing the weather with four bears.” Video inside… Read more

KTLA Chopper Video: Texting Man Comes Face to Face with Bear

Los Angeles news helicopters were out in full force early this morning as police and animal rangers tried to track down a 600-pound bear who was roaming the city’s residential streets.  The bear was eventually contained in a backyard, but not before one unsuspecting man came face to face with the wild animal.

Tracking the bear’s movements throughout the morning, KTLA‘s news helicopter captured the chance encounter: the man was walking along an alleyway, texting, when he suddenly spotted the bear in front of him (video above). Read more

WREG Reporter Has Gun Pulled on Her

WREG reporter April Thompson was working on a story about a recent murder in a small Arkansas town when a man pulled a gun on her.

Earthquake Shakes KGO During Morning Newscast

Most San Francisco residents were asleep yesterday when a pair of earthquakes struck the Bay Area around 5:30 a.m. But Kristen Sze and Eric Thomas, the co-anchors of the early morning newscast on KGO, were wide awake.

“I believe we’re feeling an earthquake right now,” Sze said, interrupting a report on an education rally (video above). “In fact, a pretty big earthquake. The studio is shaking.”

“Good jolt, lasted for a few seconds,” Thomas responded. “In fact, it might have felt like what appeared to be two jolts, a smaller one and then a larger one. The lights were shaking pretty good in here.” Read more

LA Carjacking Suspect Fatally Shot Live on KCAL

A high-speed chase being aired on KCAL last night took a tragic turn when the Los Angeles police shot and killed the driver, an armed carjacking suspect, on live television.

KCAL is an independent station in Los Angeles that is operated as a duopoly with CBS-owned KCBS. The station aired continuing coverage of the 30-minute car chase, anchored by Rick Garcia and Sharon Tay, beginning shortly after 7 p.m.

The chase came to a halt at a gas station in Koreatown around 7:30 p.m. As the LAPD surrounds the car and begins shooting, Garcia and Tay can be heard exclaiming, “Whoa, whoa, whoa!” (Video of the shooting is inside.)

After the shots were fired, KCAL also showed the suspect’s body being removed from the car. Video of the shooting was shown several times on the station’s evening newscasts, sometimes in slow-motion. Read more

VIDEO: Cars Crash During WFLA Live Shot

WFLA‘s Adrienne Pedersen was reporting live outside of a local gas station this morning when two cars collided behind her, spinning out of control through an intersection.

Although the screeching tires and metal crunch of the crash were clearly audible to viewers, Pedersen didn’t realize what had happened until anchor Gayle Guyardo pointed it out to her.

Pedersen was reporting on rising gas prices when the accident occurred.

Guyardo joked that the drivers were “probably shocked by the high gas prices” (video inside). Read more

Car Crashes Behind WNYW’s Antwan Lewis During Live Report on Whitney Houston’s Funeral

WNYW reporter Antwan Lewis appeared live on Fox sister station WTXF this morning, covering the New Jersey funeral of Whitney Houston, when a car collided with another vehicle directly behind him.

At the time of the collision, Lewis was listening to a question from WTXF anchor Mike Jerrick, who apparently didn’t realize that there had been a fender bender just feet away from the reporter. A moment of shock registered on Lewis’s face but he smoothly went on with his live report without mentioning the crash. Video inside… Read more

WPXI‘s Courtney Brennan was shooting a news piece in front of Jerry Sandusky‘s house last week when Sandusky’s wife, Dottie, sped into the driveway, coming close to hitting Brennan and her photographer (video above). [Via]
