WKMG Names Bridgett Williams Morning Anchor

It’s official: Bridgett Williams has been named the permanent morning anchor at WKMG, the CBS-affiliate in Orlando.

Williams stepped into the role on an interim basis over the summer, replacing Laura Diaz, who left the television business altogether in June. Williams was previously a weekday reporter and weekend anchor at WKMG.

In a statement announcing the move, WKMG general manager Skip Valet praised Williams’ addition to the morning team. “She has done a terrific job sitting in as co-anchor on the Local 6 Morning News and has become an important morning news team member,” he said. “So we asked her to make the job permanent.”

Williams Replaces Diaz at WKMG

Bridgett Williams takes over today as WKMG‘s morning anchor, shifting into the time slot Laura Diaz left last week. Diaz announced she was leaving the station because she is “too down to earth to be an on-air personality.”

Before her new assignment, Williams was anchoring the weekend morning shows and the 11 p.m. Sunday news. She has been at WMKG since 2010, when she moved to Orlando from Augusta’s WAGT. She is the sister of Weather Channel meteorologist Scott Williams.

She will be joined in the mornings by anchor Matt Austin, who moves to WKMG from KOKH in Oklahoma City.
