WXIN General Manager Moves to Rival WTHR

Dispatch Broadcast Group has named Larry Delia president and general manager of WTHR-WALV in Indianapolis. Delia comes from rival WXIN, Tribune’s Fox affiliate, where he has been vice president and general manager since 2011.

“Larry is a highly respected broadcaster, with years of experience in skillfully managing high performance television stations,” Dispatch Broadcast Group CEO Michael J. Fiorile said in a statement. “His knowledge of the Indianapolis market is a wonderful asset, and I couldn’t be happier that he will be joining our station in Indianapolis.”

Before joining WXIN, Delia worked as VP-GM of WPMT in Harrisburg and WGNO in New Orleans.

Dispatch Stations Go Dark on DISH Network in Retransmission Feud

A retransmission feud between DISH Network and Dispatch Broadcast Group, the parent company of WTHR in Indianapolis and WBNS in Columbus, has taken a nasty turn.

The stations were pulled from DISH’s lineup on Friday at midnight after the two parties failed to agree on a carriage agreement. In a video that has been broadcast on WTHR in a loop since the blackout began, a DISH spokesperson says Dispatch “has blocked this station from the DISH lineup by not renewing its contract with us at fair and reasonable terms.”

“Dispatch has demanded a massive price increase in exchange for the rights to your local channels, a price that would translate into substantially higher costs for you,” the spokesperson says (video after the jump). “We can’t allow that to happen.”

In a statement on its Facebook page, WTHR said DISH’s claim “just isn’t true.” Read more

Longtime WOWK Anchor Sandra Cole Lands at ONN

Sandra Cole, who is ending a 17-year run with WOWK in Huntington, WV, is set to join ONN, a Dispatch Broadcast-owned cable news channel serving Ohio.

Cole will anchor ONN’s evening news block alongside Mike Kallmeyer. She’s scheduled to make her on-air debut on Monday, October 24th.

“Sandra is very excited to join ONN and embark on a new challenge,” said ONN news director Greg Fisher. “We are delighted that she has joined our staff and I am certain that her talent, experience and enthusiasm will prove to be invaluable to our network.”

WOWK announced in August that Cole was leaving the station at the end of her contract, which expires in October. In the meantime, Cole continues to anchor the CBS-affiliate’s 6, 7, and 11 p.m. newscasts.
