Heidi Jones May Be on Her Way Out as WABC Searches for a New Weather Anchor

According to a recent job posting, WABC is “looking for a full-time Weather Anchor.” Which raises the question: is Heidi Jones, the embattled weather anchor who is facing charges of lying to New York City police, on her way out?

Jones, who’s been with WABC since 2005, was the station’s weekend weather anchor before taking leave in December after police filed charges against her.

Jones’s bio still remains on WABC’s website and the station had no comment on the matter when TVSpy sister site FishbowlNY contacted them this week.

It’s important to note that the job posting mentions the morning news team while Jones typically covered the evening newscasts. If the station isn’t looking for a straight-up replacement for Jones, it could certainly use the new weather anchor to eventually take over the role that Jones has held. Read more

Court Documents Reveal that Heidi Jones Told Police ‘I Made It Up For Attention’

Heidi Jones, the WABC meteorologist accused of lying to New York City police about an attempted sexual assault, appeared in court on Wednesday to face two misdemeanor charges.

According to court documents released on Wednesday, Jones admitted to police on December 13 that she had made up the story about a hispanic man forcing her into a wooded area while she was jogging in Central Park.

“I did make this up. I made it up for attention. I have so much stress at work, with my personal life and with my family. I know there is no justification for it,” Jones reportedly told police.

While Jones ignored reporters outside the Manhattan courthouse on Wednesday, her attorney, Paul Callan, told the swarm of microphones that Jones had entered a not guilty plea in the case.

“There is a presumption of innocence that applies even to Heidi Jones,” he said.

Heidi Jones’ Attorney Says She Never Said ‘Rape’ as New Details Emerge in Case

A lawyer representing Heidi Jones says that the WABC weathercaster never told police that she was the victim of attempted rape.  Paul Callan released a statement on Friday saying that the press coverage of his client has been “disturbingly one-sided and unfair” and urged the public to “remember the presumption of innocence.”

News broke last week that Jones had admitted to New York City police that she had lied to them about an incident that allegedly occurred while she was jogging in Central Park.  While initial reports indicated that Jones had told police that a man had attempted to rape her, Callan is adamant in saying that his client never described the incident as rape.

Jones “wants to make it clear that at no time did she ever claim to any law enforcement official that she had been raped or that she was the victim of an attempted rape,” Callan said. “The characterization of this case as a ‘false rape claim’ is character assassination directed at a respected broadcast journalist.”

Rivals Aggressively Cover Misfortunes of WABC’s Heidi Jones

Viewers are used to seeing personal swipes coming from cable news competitors like Keith Olbermann and Bill O’Reilly but it’s rare that network and local news outlets will trump up the misfortunes of their rivals. But that’s what appears to be happening in the case of WABC’s Heidi Jones.

Jones, a weekend weathercaster for WABC and sometimes fill-in for “Good Morning America,” has been charged with lying to police about an attempted rape in Central Park. The New York Post broke the story on Wednesday, reporting that Jones had admitted to making up her account of being dragged into a wooded area by a hispanic man who tried to rape her. She faces a misdemeanor charge and, if convicted, could face up to a year in jail or a $1,000 fine. Jones has been suspended by WABC pending an internal investigation.

Police Charge WABC Weathercaster Heidi Jones for Lying About Rape

WABC weathercaster Heidi Jones has admitted to New York City police that she lied to them about an attempted rape. Jones now faces a charge of filing a false report in connection with her story that she narrowly escaped a would-be rapist while jogging in Central Park.

On November 24, according to the New York Post, Jones approached police saying that she had been dragged into a wooded area by a hispanic man who had tried to rape her before he was scared off by two passers-by. The story drew skepticism from the police since Jones did not approach them until two months after the attack allegedly occurred. Jones, 37, even told police that the attacker tracked her down months after the attack, convinced that she had reported the incident. Read more
