Gray Paying Cash for South Dakota Station

New_Gray_304Gray Television has announced an agreement to buy KEVN, the Rapid City, SD, FOX affiliate, from Mission TV, LLC for $7.75 million in cash.

“While the decision to sell is a difficult one,” William Reyner, president of Mission TV said in a statement. “I am confident that Gray Television’s resources, fine leadership and supportive management team will provide KEVN and its fine employees with tremendous opportunities to build upon their successes and better serve our loyal viewers.”

The deal, which is pending FCC approval, also includes KEVN’s satellite station in Lead, SD, KIVV.

“We expect KEVN-TV will integrate well with our recently announced proposed acquisition of the ABC affiliate in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the NBC affiliates in the Fargo and the Minot-Bismarck, North Dakota, markets from Hoak Media,” said Kevin Latek, Gray’s SVP for Business Affairs.

Rapid City FOX Affiliate Expands Newscast

kevn_folksRapid City FOX affiliate KEVN expanded its weekend news by a half-hour beginning Saturday.

The station told viewers about the move on its facebook page, “Join us this weekend at 9:00 as our weekend news expands to a full hour.”

Rapid City FOX Station Marooned After Weekend Snowstorm

snow_totals_kevnStaffers at Rapid City, SD, FOX affiliate KEVN found themselves stuck at the station after a snowstorm hit the area over the weekend.

The station posted a plea for help to its facebook page yesterday, “Hey viewers we have a favor to ask! Is there anyone out there in Rapid City with a snowmobile that could help us out? We have been stranded at the station for days and desperately need to replenish the crew.”

The Rapid City Police had issued a no travel advisory starting at 11:00 a.m. Friday saying road conditions were deteriorating rapidly with visibility at about 1/4 mile. Read more

Jennifer Dowling Joins WXMI From Rival WWMT

Jennifer Dowling has jumped from WWMT in Grand Rapids to rival WXMI, MLive.com reports.

Dowling was a crime and courts reporter and fill-in anchor at CBS-affiliate WWMT. She joined the station in 2010 from WILX, the NBC-affiliate in Lansing, MI. She has also worked at KEVN in Rapid City, SD, KTIV in Sioux City, IA and WHO in Des Moines.

The Michigan native began at Fox-affiliate WXMI last week.
