Ginger Geoffery Leaving WKBW

Ginger Geoffery, morning anchor for Buffalo, NY, ABC affiliate WKBW, is leaving the station.

She told TVSPy she wasn’t ready to announce where she’s headed, but could confirm she was moving on at the end of her current contract.

Geoffery’s move follows her co-anchor Patrick Taney‘s decision to move to WHEC in Rochester. Granite Broadcasting recently promoted station manager and VP of sales Mike Nurse to GM after Bill Ransom announced his retirement in May. Nurse takes over July 1.

Geoffery started at WKBW as a reporter in 2004. She also worked as a sports anchor before anchoring the news. She started her career covering the NHL’s Dallas Stars and MLB’s Texas Rangers and worked at CNN Headline News as a sports anchor before coming to WKBW.

>UPDATE: Polly Van Doren, news director for WKBW told TVSpy in an email,

“WKBW is undertaking a complete revamp of our morning news product. Anchors Patrick Taney and Ginger Geoffery will be moving on – Patrick to a new position at WHEC in Rochester, and Ginger to another opportunity. Ginger has not been offered another contract, but will continue to remain at WKBW through the duration of her current deal, which expires in October.  We have a new General Manager who feels it’s best to start fresh with our morning product. Ginger has been a valued member of our news team. Change is inevitable in our business and this change is not reflective of her abilities. We are working with her as she goes on to what is certain to be a great opportunity. We are in the process of signing a new team and expect to announce their hiring next week.”

Patrick Taney Moving to Rochester’s WHEC

Patrick Taney, morning anchor for Buffalo ABC affiliate WKBW, is moving 26 markets down and about seventy miles east to work for Rochester, NY, NBC affiliate WHEC.

Taney told TVSpy, he “decided against moving to another city further away at this point in my life despite other offers.” According to Buffalo News writer Alan Pergament, WKBW news director Polly Van Doren wrote in a memo to staff, the move will allow Taney to spend more time with his parents who live near Rochester.

Taney came to WKBW from WZVN in Fort Myers, FL. Before WZVN, he worked at WBBH also in Fort Myers, KHOG in Fort Smith-Fayetteville, AR, and Cable 13 in Leighton, PA. Taney said he will stay at WKBW until the station finds a replacement.
