Lynda Loveland Returns to WRAL TV

loveland wralWRAL has announced Lynda Loveland is back at the Raleigh, NC, CBS affiliate.

Loveland left WRAL after 10 years to work in radio. The station said she was ready to return after five years as a morning drive co-host on its radio sister station WRAL-FM.

She will co-anchor WRAL News on FOX affiliate WRAZ weekday mornings and fill-in anchor on WRAL.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be coming back to WRAL-TV!” Loveland said in a statement. “Not only is the name synonymous with news excellence, but for me, it also stands for family. I can’t wait to get back in the newsroom Friday morning.”

Kevin Holmes Leaving WRAL for Anchor Job in Savannah

WRAL has announced reporter Kevin Holmes is leaving the Raleigh-Durham CBS affiliate to become an anchor for ABC and FOX affiliate WJCL-WTGS in Savannah, GA.

“It’s been a pleasure to watch Kevin grow as a journalist here,” said WRAL news director Rick Gall in a statement. “Moving to the anchor desk is a big step for Kevin, and we wish him great success as his career unfolds.”

WJCL-WTGS GM Les Vann confirmed the move with TVSpy and said Holmes starts at his station next month.

Holmes’ last day at WRAL is Sunday. He came to the station in 2010 from WPTY (now WATN) in Memphis, TN. He’s also worked at WJRT in Flint, MI.

Reporter Erin Hartness Says Goodbye to WRAL

Reporter Erin Hartness is signing off today from WRAL, the CBS affiliate in Raleigh-Durham.

Hartness is ending her 13-year career in television to join Duke University, where she will be public relations manger for the Fuqua School of Business. She has worked at WRAL since 2007.

“Erin really worked her beats, enterprising and breaking stories,” news director Rick Gall said in a statement. “Her determination and dedication are impressive. Her insistence on accuracy and perspective in stories is admirable.”

Former WPIX Anchor Jackie Hyland Joins WRAL

Jackie Hyland (pictured, right) who was cut loose from New York City’s WPIX in March when her contract was not renewed, will debut September 27 as evening anchor on WRAL, the CBS-affiliate in Raleigh-Durham.

Hyland’s addition to the news team was announced by the station along with a handful of changes to the talent lineup. Hyland will be paired with longtime WRAL anchor Gerald Owens on the 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts; she will replace anchor Debra Morgan, who will take over the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts from Pam Saulsby.

Saulsby, who has been with the station since 1991, is leaving to pursue “other opportunities outside of the station,” according to the WRAL release. She will continue to co-anchor the noon newscast until later this fall, but her final evening newscasts will be later this week. Read more
