New York Fashion Week gets underway tomorrow with a few presentations and a lone early-bird show (Natsuko Kanno’s shape-shifting 4 Corners of a Circle), but the real kickoff will be a Lincoln Center luncheon in honor of Oscar de la Renta. The designer is the recipient of the 2012 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion, an honor bestowed annually by the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology‘s Couture Council. Past recipients include Ralph Rucci, Alber Elbaz, Karl Lagerfeld, and Valentino. “Oscar de la Renta is a true fashion superstar who has long served as one of the greatest ambassadors of American style,” said Valerie Steele, director and chief curator of the Museum at FIT, in a statement issued by the school. “His clothes, which draw on the heritage of Spain and the French haute couture, as well as on the dynamism of contemporary New York high fashion, convey a sense of luxury and drama that have earned him acclaim throughout the world.”
