Kiran Aditham, Editor, AgencySpy
[send message]

Prior to joining Mediabistro, Kiran spent two years as a digital reporter for Crain's Creativity magazine and two years before that as managing editor of online marketing site Adotas.com. On the side, Kiran dabbles in music/film journalism and his work has appeared in Fangoria, Grooves, XLR8R, The New Times and sites like PrefixMag.com. He still continues his unenviable search to find someone else who shares equal love and admiration for horror films, tennis and the Golden Girls.

He has written seven feature-length screenplays that are in various stages of development, including a comedy, Victory & Loco, sold to Warner Brothers Studios. Born and raised on the thirteen mile long island of Manhattan, Weston enjoys all things nautical, from sailing as first mate aboard the historic 102-foot schooner Pioneer to delving into the history of passenger liners from all over the world. He is a member of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Writers Guild of America. Weston also maintains one of the largest collections of the MacGyver theme song in the Western Hemisphere, currently numbering over twenty four different versions.
Ashley Taylor Anderson, Senior Marketing Manager
[send message]

Ashley joined the Mediabistro marketing team in 2012 after 7 years of wrangling with physics, astronomy, and chemistry authors as development editor for Pearson Science. When she’s not working marketing magic, you’ll find her in the kitchen whipping up delectable pastries, writing in a café, cursing at a sewing machine, or losing herself in a fantastical book. As a recent transplant to New York from San Francisco, she still marvels at commonplace miracles such as snow, high-volume foot traffic, and old buildings.

Chris Ariens, Vice President and Editorial Director
[send message]

Chris joined Mediabistro in July 2007 as editor of TVNewser.com and executive producer of the blog network and was promoted to editorial director in June 2009. Before joining mediabistro, Chris spent seven years at MSNBC, as a line producer, coordinating producer for the Olympics, and lastly as executive producer of daytime programs., Chris worked as a producer in local TV news in Green Bay (WLUK) and Tampa (WFTS). Born, raised, and schooled in Wisconsin; skiing and travel keep Chris from falling into a TV news trance. Follow TVNewser on Twitter.
Damien Barchowsky, Programmer
[send message]

Damien has been writing the code that makes mb tick since 1999, initially as a freelancer and as a fulltime employee since the summer of 2003. Before he became a freelance tech guy in 1998, he worked for Bloomberg L.P., doing design work and computer programming for the TV network. He lives in San Francisco, and he writes and draws comics in whatever small amount of free time he can scrounge up.
Donya Blaze, Managing Editor
[send message]

As Mediabistro's managing editor, Donya spends her days, nights, and shower time thinking of new and interesting features that speak to the needs of busy media professionals. She should know -- before joining mb, she worked in every aspect of the business other than cleaning floors. She has been an on-air announcer for WOWI-FM, WPGC-FM, WUSL-FM, and WCAU-TV, and the urban programming manager for AOL Music and AOL Radio. More recently, she published the music magazine Milk and freelanced for HoneyMag.com, Sister 2 Sister, and Upscale. In her free time, she enjoys Cold Stone Creamery's Birthday Cake Remix (a Like It Serving, please), reruns of Martin (Damn, Gina!), and shopping for bargains (Do you have a rewards program?).

He is a New York University graduate who lives in Hoboken, N.J.

Chiara DePaolo, Event Associate
[send message]

Chiara is member of the events team at Mediabistro. She started her career in healthcare public relations but found event planning more exciting and fun especially when all the variables come together; which, somehow they always seem to do. When she is not planning a Mediabistro event, Chiara can be found practicing yoga, baking or hunting for obscure and not so obscure restaurants.

Evan Dierlam, Web Production Associate
[send message]

As the new Web production associate at Mediabistro, Evan slings webs across mb assets and fights UI crime. At night, he can be found webbing his way across the city. Though a recent New York transplant, his gluttony for culture leads him to consume a plethora of museums and shows regularly. On mornings, he can be found wandering starry-eyed between stalls at the farmer's markets, or furiously writing or drawing, all while single-handedly increasing Sri Lanka's GDP through mass tea consumption.

Kevin Eck, Editor, TVSpy / Producer, mediabistroTV
[send message]

Kevin joined Mediabistro as an editor for TVSpy and video producer in August 2012. Before moving to NYC, Kevin spent much of his adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area working at local TV stations until succumbing to the lure of the high tech world. Born in Rapid City, South Dakota, and having moved to multiple Air Force bases with his family as a child, Kevin takes way too much time to answer the simple question, "So, where are you from?" something that endlessly annoys his wife.

He is a proud graduate of San Jose State University and has multiple regional emmy awards for producing, editing and just hanging around some guys who were doing great work. He enjoys reading, watching movies (Anchorman is his favorite) and music that makes him cry. When he's not working or laying about on the couch searching for new episodes of "Finding Bigfoot", he can be found searching for hills to climb on his fancy carbon bicycle.

Jessica Eule, Executive Director of Education
[send message]

Jessica has been part of the education department since 2005, working her way up the trenches from coordinator to executive director. Her goal is to create a roster of courses that will help everyone climb the ladder to the job they want. She is a self-proclaimed foodie, starting her career in the business department of Gourmet. She graduated from the University of Delaware and can be found scoping out the latest restaurant, catching up on her DVR collection of reality television, and finding the best ramen in NYC. She welcomes course and restaurant recommendations.

Frank Fazio, Senior Director of Sales, Events
[send message]

Frank Fazio oversees Mediabistro's event sponsorships, including cocktail parties, conferences, and panel discussions. Prior to joining Mediabistro, he spent eight years as the director of sales at the Search Engine Strategies Conference & Expo Series, which was formerly owned by WebMediaBrands. Frank is is a graduate of the University of South Carolina (Go Gamecocks!) and lives in Stamford, CT. In his spare time, you can find Frank coaching his daughter's soccer team, downloading music (legally of course), or hiking some random section of the Appalachian Trail.

John Gephart, Senior Developer
[send message]

John is a Web developer and information junkie. Sports interests include playing racquetball, skiing, and destroying friends in fantasy sports leagues. He roots hard for the Philadelphia Eagles from deep within New York Giants country. John recently taught a cat to roll over on command after being told it couldn't be done. His Tivo is always overloaded, and he has probably seen every episode of Seinfeld at least 10 times. John's work has nothing to do with chemistry or beakers.

Devon Glenn, Editor, SocialTimes.com

Devon Glenn left Southern California for New York City in 2008. Her writing has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the Orange County Register, Kirkus Reviews, and the now-defunct mobile magazine, U+Me. She lives somewhere between Brooklyn and the weird part of YouTube.

Jeff Hazen, Senior Sales Manager
[send message]

Jeff comes to us after many years at Internet.com, having had responsibility for setting up and managing partnerships and revenue share programs along with forging new business development deals. After graduating college in Rhode Island with a degree in communications, he spent over eight years at one of the original computer product catalog resellers, Mac/MicroWarehouse, in a myriad of different (delete) sales and marketing roles, the last one culminating in the role of Director of International Marketing, overseeing the company’s product management and merchandising for overseas offices. In his spare time, Jeff enjoys travelling with his family to new and exciting places.

Tiffany Kesden, Senior Operations Associate
[send message]

Tiffany joined the Mediabistro team in 2009, right after graduating with a BA in Marketing and Finance from Binghamton University. She makes use of neither of these two degrees in her ad operations role, but enjoys it none-the-less. Currently living deep into the far end of Brooklyn (just blocks from her childhood home), she typically dreads the long hour+ commute to work each morning on the Q train; but refuses to leave the neighborhood for a more convenient location - "it just wouldn't be home". On the plus side, the long commute does allow her time to catch up on a good amount of reading with some of her favorite authors: Robert Heinlein, Ken Follett, Isaac Asimov (along with the occasional girly romance novel - just for a good balance).

Tatyana Kuznetsova, Interactive Art Director
[send message]

Tatyana joins us as our Interactive Art Director. She came from NBC where she was leading various design initiatives including London 2012 Olympics and NBC Local Media City Site redesign. Prior to that, she worked for a number of Fortune 500 companies, including Thomson Reuters, Real Networks, and Boeing. She moved to New York from Seattle in 2008, and has been enjoying all the amazing things this city has to offer.

Rachel LaMariana, Client Relations Associate
[send message]

Rachel joined the Mediabistro team in March, 2013. Since Rachel was 15, her dream has been to live in the Big Apple and work hard in the Media industry. After graduating early from SUNY Oswego with a Communications degree, she took up two internships involving PR and Entertainment. One year later she went in for the kill and landed the perfect job at Mediabistro. Rachel is more than excited to be a part of the Mediabistro team and she looks forward to years to come.

Eva Pereira, Education Manager
[send message]

As Education Manager, Eva will focus on building our roster of online courses and conferences. She has a background in news media, coming to us from Forbes where she worked as a Web Producer for the Technology channel. When she wasn’t working on homepage editing or recruiting new writers, she led the educational webinars for the staff. In her spare time, she writes about education technology among other things. Originally from South Florida, she misses the beach and warm weather, and tries to return home as often as possible.

Stewart Quealy, Director of Content, Events/Conferences
[send message]

Stewart joined the Mediabistro team in 2010 and currently curates the live events and conferences. Previously, he played a leadership role in running the Search Engine Strategies (SES) events as part of the original content team at Incisive Media. Prior to that, Stewart worked with Jupitermedia and was responsible for launching emerging technology events such as the Jupiter/IAB Advertising Forum, Plug.IN, Game Market Watch, Enterprise Linux Forum and ClickZ Online Video Advertising. Stewart has also worked closely with the open-source Apache Software Foundation (ASF), the IT Service Management Forum (itSMF), and the Object Management Group (OMG), an international not-for-profit computer industry consortium. Earlier in the dot-com bubble, Stewart worked with 101 Communications and SIGS Publications, overseeing their object-oriented programming portfolio of events, including Java DevCon, XML ONE and C++ World. Sandra Reitman, Education Assistant
[send message]

Sandra Reitman joined Mediabistro after graduating with her MA in Media Studies from The New School in New York. Previously at Yahoo! and The Knot Inc, Carrie thrives in the media world and in establishing strong relationships with our recruitment advertising partners. Carrie graduated from The University of Delaware and currently lives in New York City.

Betsy Rothstein, Editor, mediabistro Washington, D.C.
[send message]

Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Betsy has been covering or torturing (depending who you ask) Washington media for the past two years. Early on, she studied journalism in England, interviewing punk rockers in Piccadilly Circus who promptly stole her notebook and ripped it up. After graduating from Union College with a B.A. in Spanish she began her journalism career in Cambridge, Mass., working for a Cuban newspaper where she conducted man-on-the-street interviews in which she asked Latinos about their love lives. "Do Latinos make better lovers or what?" She then moved out west to Denver where she worked for two rival Hispanic weeklies, one year respectively at each. Next stop: J-school at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism where she earned a Master’s degree. In the years following grad school she worked at the Boca Raton News as a business reporter followed by a brief stint as a press secretary for former Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.). She spent the next decade on Capitol Hill covering hard news, features and gossip for The Hill Newspaper. In 2009 she quit and moved to Portland, Ore. and wrote about the many long-haired men who resemble Jesus. They weren’t all kind (one was fat and confrontational) but she got her story.

Emily Schwartz, Event Manager
[send message]

Emily joins Mediabistro after two years of working in Washington D.C. in event planning and public relations. She graduated from The George Washington University with a BBA in Marketing and Sports & Event Management. Weekly, a startup weekly newspaper/digital media company in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. And previously, Tim worked for several daily newspapers and news sites, including The New Jersey Herald in Newton, New Jersey, and Daily Record, a Gannett paper, in Parsippany, as copy desk chief and copy editor.

Melissa Sumida, Production Assistant
[send message]

Melissa has created, managed and published online content for TheLocalLife.com city sites, img Media's Vogue.tv's Model.Live, JeffGordon.com, and MariaSharpova.com. She lives in Jersey City with a four-legged beast named Camilla, has a band, loves oil painting, and adores the simple things in life like binary code and a pretty interface. Melissa will be handling email production.

Heather Frank Turk, Director of Event Operations
[send message]

Heather comes to Mediabistro with a diverse background in conference and event planning. After graduating from The George Washington University, she stayed in D.C. long enough to learn she wanted to be in NYC. Once in NY, she worked at Ziff Davis' Enterprise Group, IQPC, and Wine Enthusiast. When not lurking behind the scenes at seminars and conferences, Heather skis, works on puzzles, eats at "the" newest spot, or enjoys the artistry of a skilled mixologist.

Gretchen VanEsselstyn, Director of Curriculum, Community, and Education Technology
[send message]

Gretchen comes to Mediabistro with a background in magazine publishing and online education. She spent the last four years editing Chile Pepper Magazine, a spicy food lover's journal, and is always available for hot sauce recommendations and chili judging. Before following her bliss to culinary school, Gretchen founded and established the distance learning division at Kaplan Educational Centers. She's excited to have the chance to merge her passion for Web-based education with her longstanding obsession with magazines that dates back to such titles as Cricket, Dyn-o-mite! and Tiger Beat.

She loves to travel, and has journeyed to all the continents (except for South America and Antarctica—next on her list). She also enjoys playing and listening to music and eating and cooking food.

Some testimonials for mediabistro

I think Mediabistro is the best source on the web for media people. Laurel saw what was sorely missing in an industry that is all about contacts and did something about it, and absolutely all of us can appreciate her willingness to help connect people with people.

Lucy Banduci
CNNfn.com
Associate Producer

I've been meaning to call mediabistro and let you know what a fantastic job you've done with it. First off, I've recommended it to a ton of people both as a research and a posting tool. Secondly, as someone who as spent the past eight years hiring editorial types for Random House, I was impressed by the calliber of resumes that I received. I literally had over 100 applicants.

Tripology
mediabistro.com is by far the best resource, particularly in the NYC area, for finding good editorial and art people, and we've also had success with other areas as well. Our senior creative managers also use the site for sourcing freelancers regularly. I recommend the site to anyone interested in finding good creative people; there really is no comparable resource.

Charlie Gray
Director of Recruiting
Ziff-Davis Media
I check in with mediabistro every day. I don't even need a job right now, but it's great to see what is out there. Also, I read the Wired article about your site recently, and it was really inspirational to hear how you put all this together. Congratulations, you really have a brilliant site here.

Cheers,
Chris K., NYC
