Cinemax Creates Vine Series To Promote 'Banshee'

Cinemax is demonstrating how effective Vine can be for TV networks beyond behind-the-scenes sneak peeks.

The network, as Mashable reports, is using Vine to promote season two of action series ‘Banshee’ with a series of 6-second narrative clips involving the show’s characters. Yes, shot on a phone.

From the creator of ‘True Blood,’ ‘Banshee’ is about Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, Pennsylvania, where he continues his criminal activities even as he’s hunted by the gangsters he betrayed years earlier.

The Vines give followers – and, the network hopes, future ‘Banshee’ fans – a look at the “hopes and fears” of the citizens of Banshee.

Showrunner Greg Yaitanes told Mashable,

“This is the first time a television show has done a fully integrated series using characters on Vine. These Vines are written by [the show's co-creator/executive producer] Jonathan Tropper, and express the inner thoughts of our characters going into season two.”
