That’s Not Very Spiritual! Deepak Chopra Tells Twitter Critic To ‘Shut Up’

Deepak Chopra is, according to his official website, the author of more than sixty books translated into over eighty-five languages, fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Adjunct Professor of Executive Programs at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and Senior Scientist with The Gallup Organization.

Time magazine credits Chopra as “the poet-prophet of alternative medicine”. Chopra typically writes on subjects such as the mind-body connection and spirituality, and recommends ridding oneself of negative emotions to improve health and wellbeing.

It was somewhat surprising, then, when he responded to some criticism on Twitter by publicly telling the person involved to ‘shut up’.

The incident took place earlier today. Chopra (@DeepakChopra), who often sends out spirituality tweets using the hashtag #CosmicConsciousness, had published seven tweets in a row, two of which were deemed questionable by Twitter user Suzanne Munshower, aka @expatina, who retweeted Chopra’s messages and added her own comments at the end.

It was pretty light stuff, to be honest, but that didn’t stop Chopra taking a break from his run to tell Munshower to ‘shut up’.

To her credit (and fittingly), Munshower took Chopra’s out-of-character burst of negativity in good spirits.

Chopra has over 600,000 followers on Twitter, and his reply to Munshower was heavily retweeted. Whatever you feel about the merits of Chopra’s tweets, even his most dedicated followers would perhaps feel that he stepped a little off-message with that outburst.

Chopra bounced back with another #CosmicConsciousness message with his next tweet, almost as if nothing had happened.

Then a couple of hours later he responded in an equally bizarre way to a couple of people who picked him up on his remark from earlier.

I guess that’s the real power of the ‘cosmic consciousness’ right there.
