The Twitter Book Will Soon Become The Twitter TV Show

Remember the Twitter book that was launched in November? It generated some pretty serious buzz – enough to pique the interest of film company Lionsgate, and start talks of a TV show.

For anyone interested in a behind-the-scenes look at Twitter’s early days, this news should be a big thrill.

“Hatching Twitter” author Nick Bilton announced on his website that Lionsgate would be adapting his book for TV. Bilton – a columnist and New York Times reporter – will write the screenplay and serve as producer for the new show.

According to the press release announcing the show, it will:

“…present a fascinating behind-the-scenes account of the creation of the social media service by four friends and its evolution into a juggernaut that changed the world.. [and] shed light on the relationships, battles, power grabs and betrayals along the way in one of the most talked-about books of the year.”

The show is already being compared to The Social Network, the film that depicted the early days – including plenty of romance, friendship and betrayal – of Facebook. However, Bilton’s book is said to be much more balanced in its portrayal of Twitter’s co-founders, unlike “The Social Network”‘s unflinching scrutinization of Mark Zuckerberg.

No production information for “Hatching Twitter” has been released yet, as the project is still in its early stages. However, Lionsgate does have experience with successful book adaptations (Hunger Games) and TV series (Orange is the New Black), so you can bet this book will get a great treatment.
