The Evolution Of Marketing Data – From Direct Mail To Twitter (1960-2012) [INFOGRAPHIC]

We mentioned this stat of the day in a post earlier this morning, but it bears repeating: in just five years, the amount of digital information created and shared globally has grown 900 percent to almost 2 zettabytes. Which, as you might have guessed, is a really big number.

And, of course, marketing data is a large chunk of that change, and the industry has been through a huge evolution since the Mad Men era of the 1960s, the birthplace of modern advertising, through to present day concepts and platforms, such as mobile marketing, social networking and community management.

Bottom line? It all adds up to an awful lot of ones and zeroes. The infographic from Infogroup Target Solutions takes a closer look at the evolution of marketing data.
