#TIME100 Gala Celebrates World’s Most Influential People

The TIME 100 Gala took place last night in New York City and celebrated an eclectic list of honorees deemed the 100 Most Influential People in the World. The 100 are divided into five categories: Breakouts, Pioneers, Moguls, Leaders and Icons.

The TIME Newsfeed tells us that Rick Stengel, TIME’s managing editor, “kicked off the celebration by detailing the core mission of the TIME 100: to give a louder voice to those already changing the world. In this era of emerging technologies and pervasive social media, Stengel explained that influence, has never been easier to achieve, but harder to maintain.”

There was quite a bit of Twitter activity around the event, particularly if you were following the hashtag #TIME100. This view from Topsy shows more than 3k tweets using that hashtag in the last 24 hours, to be specific.

So what were folks tweeting about? Well, there were a handful of tech celebrities that attended the Gala last night, including Mashable’s Pete Cashmore, Google’s Eric Schmidt, Craig’s List, Craig Newmark, Reddit’s Erik Martin and others.

TIME sent over a couple of highlights from the social media names who attended, including this pic of Dennis Crowley, Foursquare co-founder, showing off his Foursquare cufflinks on on Twitter via an Instagram pic:

And Twitter’s own Jack Dorsey tweeting a Photobucket pic showing off the #TIME100 hashtag table top signs:

Programming for the night included remarks by Hillary Clinton and Stephen Colbert as well as performances by Rihanna and Raphael Saadiq.

What do you think of this “top 100″ list? Any folks on it that make you go, “hmm?”
