Tweet From Gmail With This One Simple Trick

There are countless Twitter apps out there to make your tweeting experience easier, but until now there hasn’t been an easy way to send your 140 character thoughts from within Gmail or other Google properties.

This new app, however, brings tweeting functionality to your Gmail account, so you can tweet while you email. Check it out in action below.

Called Twitter Gadget, this app allows you to “submit and view status updates via your iGoogle homepage, Gmail account, or directly in your browser.”

It comes with all of the features you’d want in a Twitter client, including:

  • Auto refresh
  • Built-in URL shortening
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Conversation threads
  • Short URL previews
  • Support for lists, trending topics, geolocation and more

Setting up TwitterGadget only takes about 20 seconds the first time you do it. Once logged in to Gmail, you click on the “Labs” icon beside your username at the top right of the page. Then, you click “Enable add any gadget by URL” and save changes. Next, click the “Gadgets” tab, and enter the following URL and click “Add”:

http://www.twittergadget.com/gadget_gmail.xml

And that’s it! You’ve added TwitterGadget, and you can get right to tweeting from within Gmail. Or, you can customize the size of the widget and other display elements, like user thumbnails, date stamps and post source.
