Each week we publish a bulletin that looks at the most-recently verified profiles on Twitter, highlighting the biggest celebrities, brands and businesses that have been given that all-important tick over the previous seven days.
Last week, the total number of verified accounts on Twitter blasted through an important benchmark: 50,000.
Even with this heady total, just 0.005 percent of profiles across Twitter have been verified – 45 percent of these are in the U.S. and a further 20 percent in the UK, with the remaining 35 percent scattered around the world. And, despite what you might think, how many followers you have is no guarantee that your profile will be verified, nor does Twitter show a bias towards the most popular users on Twitter. Just 2.5 percent of all verified accounts have more than one million followers, with almost half (48.4 percent) having 10,000 followers or less.
Additionally, 64 percent of all verified profiles are for users who do not work in music, television, government or sports. Check the infographic below for more key stats.
