Twitter Creates VP Of Design Position For Former Newsvine CEO

Don’t you wish you could work for Twitter?

Better yet – don’t you wish they would create a position just for you and you could move to San Francisco to work with Twitter’s flock at its new headquarters on Market Street?

That’s what happened with Mike Davidson, so there’s a chance it could happen for you too! (Assuming you’re a former CEO with tons of Twitter experience, that is.)

All Things D reports that Twitter just hired Mike Davidson, the “CEO and founder of Newsvine, a collaborative journalism Web site acquired by NBC News in 2007. He previously held positions at ESPN and the Walt Disney Corporation, and will move from Seattle down to San Francisco to join Twitter.”

Davidson will be joining Twitter on October 29.

His blog post shares some insight as to what we can expect from Davidson in the coming months:

Twitter has gone from quirky little internet CB radio to exploding social upstart to what I now consider one of the most important information platforms in the world. At its best, Twitter is an international treasure.

As both a user and an information designer, I’ve grown to love Twitter more each year, and so it is with great excitement that I’m happy to announce I have agreed to move down to San Francisco and Join The Flock™ in the newly created position of Vice President, Design.

I couldn’t be more thrilled to help lead an already world-class team of designers working alongside all of the other great people in the company to make Twitter a positive force in as many people’s lives as possible.

I can’t speak too much about strategy yet, especially considering I don’t even start until the end of the month, but I will just say this:

I’ve always viewed Twitter as a personal information agent, and I think as we work to make it both smarter and more responsive to what people want from it, it has the potential to be the most useful connected service in the world.

I hope to be able to post more thoughts in the coming months, but it’s probably wise to wait until I’m at least on the payroll before saying something that might get me fired.

Tweet your congratulations to him @mikeindustries.
