An Australian developer by the name of Softlink has just released a couple apps which should make it easier to manage one’s library account while mobile.

Library Link is designed to work with Softlink’s partner libraries and allow patrons to interact with a libraries web resources, all from within the app.

“Softlink’s current focus is to provide mobile solutions for schools and resource centres to enhance their service delivery and we will continually offer the latest technology innovations for our users,” says Mr Steven Mayocchi, Softlink’s Development Manager.
“After providing support for iPads and Android tablets via browsers, Library Link is the next step in offering extended access to the library for mobile users,” he added.

Patrons can do everything but read eBooks, including check their personal account, view library information such as hours of operation or location, or request renewals for items currently checked out. You can even use a camera to scan ISBNs or barcodes and then search for related resources from the system. And as f0r reading eBooks, the app also includes access to a libraries digital collection via a link to OverDrive.

Softlink is the Australian partner for OverDrive, the US based library eBook distributor. Curiously enough, OverDrive offers a completely different set of apps than Softlink and they are more focused on reading eBooks and listening to audiobooks than they are on other library functions.
