Nook Revenues Up 34.3% In Fiscal 2012

Barnes & Noble’s Nook revenues increased 34.3 percent during its fiscal 2012 year. The company reported that revenues for the Nook business were $933 million in its fiscal 2012 full year, which ended April 28th. This was up from last year in which the company saw $695 million for the same period.

Despite the growth, the fourth quarter Nook revenues were only up 1%. Check it out: “Device sales declined during the fourth quarter due to higher third-party channel partner returns, lower selling volume and lower average selling prices.  In order to optimize the supply chain for new products, the company took back NOOK Simple Touch inventory following the previously announced holiday sales shortfall.”

But while device sales have slowed, digital content sales of apps, eBooks, digital magazines and the like were up for the year. In fact, digital content sales increased 65% for the fourth quarter and 119% for the full year, with digital content sales hitting $483 million for the full year.
