SoundCloud Is The Pinterest Of Sound

SoundCloud, a social networking site where people can share audio recordings from found sounds to music, is testing a new web app in which Internet users can share sound recordings like they would images on Pinterest. The SoundCloud blog claims that the new beta program is part of the company’s mission “to unmute the web.”

The updated platform is designed to work like a web app. New features include more interactive waveforms, the ability to repost and the ability to build sound collections that you can play all within one waveform. SocialTimes has more: “‘We have rewritten every single line of code,’ explained SoundCloud co-founder and CTO Eric Wahlforss. ‘Our platform is very scalable and it supports all of our official apps and third party apps,’ including Garage Band.”

The site has more than six million users sharing recordings every day. Once you post an audio track on the site, you can share your audio on social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. It’s a great place for sharing music and other kinds of audio files. GalleyCat has more about how publishers and authors can use it: “Actor Russell Brand is using the platform to promote his new book by uploading audio tracks of him reading the manuscripts. Penguin Books UK is putting audiobook excerpts on the platform. Faber and Faber is posting podcasts on the site and Harper Collins Children is posting readings on the site.”
