Kim France Dishes on Lucky and Girls of a Certain Age

Find out what it was like for this former Condé Nast editor to launch the first shopping mag.

- January 7, 2014
Before being tapped in 1999 to help launch Lucky magazine, Kim France had earned her stripes at Sassy, New York Magazine and Spin. But perhaps nothing had prepared her for venturing into the uncharted territory that was a magazine about… shopping.

France says she was grateful to have had the resources at Condé Nast to give the new mag a fighting chance. Nonetheless, she describes the experience as both thrilling and terrifying. "We had some who people were senior in the company watching what we were doing, but we were just sort of like our merry band of outsiders," says France.

In this video, France also talks about Girls of a Certain Age, her fashion and style blog for women beyond their 20s and 30s; and offers her advice to aspiring magazine journalists and bloggers.
