We will teach you everything you need to know about InDesign, the page layout program that is fast becoming the favorite of designers in the magazine business. By the end of this two-day course, you will be editorially proficient in InDesign, a declaration that will sparkle on your resume.

In this class, you will learn:

  • How to create an InDesign document
  • How to use the toolbar and palettes
  • The basics of typography, fonts, kerning, and leading
  • The proper way to make text changes
  • How to use the story editor and style sheets
  • How to adjust type and page preferences
  • How to work with multiple document pages and InDesign files
  • How to create Tables importing from Excel
  • Master pages and how to use them
  • How to import images, add colors, and change colors

Note: This class is taught on Macintosh computers, but you should also be able to use the the skills you learn on a PC. Email us if you have any questions.

Admission Requirements
This class is intended for writers and editors (not graphic professionals). Students should be comfortable with working on a Mac. Please submit a letter of interest and work history.

Instructor Bio

Patricia Ryan
Patricia Ryan is an art director and graphic designer with extensive publishing experience. She has had over 15 years experience in the design industry, including many years in magazine publishing. As an art director and graphic designer for companies such as Hachette Filipacchi, American Media, and Rodale, Patricia has gained vast knowledge and experience working with InDesign, Quark, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
