THE PROFESSIONAL SATIRIST'S GUIDE TO
THE PERFECT ORGASM

Acclaimed satirist, novelist, and back-of-the-book magazine writer Neal Pollack will lecture on the essential elements of satirical prose. There will be readings of classic satire, including Swift, Twain, Waugh, Robert Benchley, S.J. Perlman, and the original National Lampoon, as well as contemporary examples of great satirical writing from Fran Leibowitz, Ian Frazier, and The Onion, among others. By the end of the class, students will be able to differentiate satire from parody or "humor" writing. They'll leave with a loose set of guidelines that will allow them to embark on their own glorious and lucrative career in satire. There will be clips from satirical movies and TV shows to fill time, and an extraordinary display of sexual athletics by the instructor.

Neal Pollack is the author of the cult classic The Neal Pollack Anthology Of American Literature, the rock-n-roll novel Never Mind The Pollacks, and the little-known but still great collection of political satire, Beneath The Axis Of Evil. Pollack has put out two independent-label albums, including a dubious experiment with his own band, The Neal Pollack Invasion. Known for his outrageous public performances and epic book tours, Pollack often appears shirtless, but never in the classroom. He's appeared on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, This American Life, and, yes, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Pollack's work has been translated into three languages. He writes a satire column for Vanity Fair and regularly contributes to many other publications. He lives in Austin, Texas.
