"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones National Geographic Channel is looking for a Senior Manager, Digital Media. Matt Labash: The FishbowlDC Interview
What word do you routinely misspell? Patric Gaven What's the name of your cell phone ring? It's just a telephone ring, but I call it "Straight Outta Compton," because it makes me feel like a dangerous gangster. What time did you get up this morning? The news never sleeps, so how can I? When did you last cry and why? When I read Jack Shafer's Fishbowl interview. He moves me. How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? Hundreds of thousands, fan letters mostly. What's your favorite letter? L -- because it stands for "love," of which I have so much to give. What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Andrew Ferguson. A gentleman. A great writer. A great gentleman writer. When's the last time you volunteered? Where? With NAMBLA. I enjoy working with kids.
Also, drop us a line to let us know who else you'd like FishbowlDC to interview. They must work in the Washington area and you must include their email address.
What did you have for breakfast? Furry kittens. They're delicious with a little honey. What one toiletry item could you not live without? Toiletries are a modern contrivance for the weak. I bathe in sunbeams, and powder myself with moonlight. If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? The power to make every person who defends high oil prices by saying we pay more for a gallon of milk than a gallon of gas, to actually drink a gallon of gas. Red or white wine? Always, always red. Even with fish. PG-13 or R? If I'm by myself, R. If I'm with my young sons, R, because the sooner they learn that life is full of mature themes and adult language, the better off they'll be. Lincoln, Jefferson or Washington Memorial? Jefferson -- because he was the father of our country and he freed the slaves. Leg or breast (chicken, of course) On chicken, breasts. On women, legs are the most important feature. Unless they're amputees, then I don't judge. In that case, I'd pay more attention to what's on the inside, or to their torsos. Friday night or Saturday night? The greatest song ever written about a day of the week is Tom Waits's "Heart of Saturday Night," so I'll stick with that, and give you this. "Wedding Crashers" or "Old School" "Diner" -- which puts all other male bonding movies to shame. The Palm or Cafe Milano? The Palm -- before the makeover. I hate change. Yankees or Red Sox? Both of them losing makes me warm inside. Jenna or Barbara? Barbara. But not George W.'s daughter, his mom. I like a woman with experience. McSteamy or McDreamy? If it's just a quick lay? McSteamy. But if I want a relationship, McDreamy. Leno or Letterman? If it's just a quick lay? Leno. But Letterman would probably hold me and tell me it's going to be alright. Stewart or Colbert? Quick lay? Stewart. Relationship? Colbert. But why all the sexual questions? Boxers or briefs? I wish boxers or briefs provided enough fabric to contain the manhood that the good Lord has so generously endowed me with. It'd be a lot easier to shop. But since they don't, I'll just come clean: codpiece. Email This Post |
