Howard Kurtz picks up something we spent most of yesterday chasing: The extent of the lay-offs at U.S. News & World Report. He confirms the two names we heard: Congressional correspondent Terence Samuel and acclaimed author/blogger/chief political writer Roger Simon, and says that the total cuts were "at least" 10. The New York Times names two other laid-off staffers, Sara Sklaroff and Linda Kulman, who were both on maternity leave.

From what we hear, this is hardly the end of it--perhaps barely even the beginning. Rumors are still flying over at the magazine, especially as to a potential second round of lay-offs and a potential shifting of resources from the D.C. bureau to the New York bureau....
