"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Julie Mason: The FishbowlDC Interview

masonchron2.JPGToday, FishbowlDC launches an ongoing interview series--"The FishbowlDC Interview"--where we run the same quirky, fun and insightful questions by DC's various journalists (if you want to be added to the mix, drop us a line at fishbowlDC AT mediabistro DOT com ... and, no, our inbox isn't exclusively open to DC Media Big Wigs ... all may apply ... yeah, that means you, little copy editor...).

Today, we sit down with the Houston Chronicle's White House Correspondent (and blogger) Julie Mason.

How many suits do you own? Unlucky seven - too many, all dreary. But I can't coordinate like other girls, so it saves time.

What word do you routinely misspell? Ocassion. Occasion? Damn.

Did you see Brokeback Mountain? Yay

Did you see The Da Vinci Code? Schnay

What's the name of your cell phone ring? It's called "Uh-oh." I want "Fight the Power," but I need a phone upgrade for that.

What time did you get up this morning? 9 a.m. - Bush is out of town so no early gaggle.

When did you last cry and why? I am a huge sap and I cried last weekend watching "Notting Hill."

More Mason-ry when you click below...

Which of the seven deadly sins are you? All of them at varying times, but quite charmingly.

Beach, city or country? City

Would you say you're cute? Pretty? Hot? Beautiful? yes

What color is your bathroom? purple

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? about 200 on weekdays

What's your opinion of New York City? Too expensive, smells like pee, but fun to visit.

What's your favorite letter? Q

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Carl P. Leubsdorf

Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? No

Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? Kelly Pickler - she's related to Nedra Pickler from AP

When's the last time you volunteered? Where?

Who is your favorite active journalist? Michael Kinsley

What did you have for breakfast? Coffee

What's your favorite item of clothing? stretchy black t-shirt

What one toiletry item could you not live without? All hair-care products. All.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? I would be a superpower, not have one.

Better role model: GIJoe? Barbie? Barbie - love the Malibu Beach House.

And finally, start a sentence with just one word (each subsequent FishbowlDC interview will add a word to that sentence):

"Shamrocks..."
