Post Drops Walk SponsorshipIn a surprising move (at least, to us), the Post has backed out of its decision to sponsor the Pentagon's upcoming 9/11 memorial walk. The move comes after three days of stirring controversy and two days of Post-aimed potshots atop Romenesko's media navel-gazing site. "As it appears that this event could become politicized, The Post has decided to honor the Washington area victims of 9/11 by making a contribution directly to the Pentagon Memorial Fund," Post spokesperson Eric Grant told the paper's David Montgomery. "It is The Post's practice to avoid activities that might lead readers to question the objectivity of The Post's news coverage." The DoD says, "It is unfortunate that the Washington Post has made this decision not to support the 'Freedom Walk,' but we welcome their donation to the Pentagon Memorial Fund." > The article mentions that there were messages circulated internally at the Post yesterday.
