  • An NBC release announced that "NBC News with Brian Williams" will "examine and personalize this critical issue as part of a weeklong series 'Trading Places: Caring for Elderly Parents.'" The series will begin on Monday, February 12, and is scheduled to run five nights. Tim Russert and Ann Curry will discuss their fathers.

  • This week's Pew Talk Show Index shows, "The political skirmishing over U.S. strategy in Iraq and the embryonic 2008 campaigns of Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton were what was buzzing on cable and talk radio airwaves last week. … Together, the Iraq debate (31%) and White House race (17%) combined to fill about half the time in our talk show universe January 28 to February 2."

  • Arthur Sulzberger, owner, chairman and publisher the New York Times on the future of his newspaper: "I really don't know whether we'll be printing the Times in five years, and you know what? I don't care either," he says. Haaretz.com reports that Sulzberger "is focusing on how to best manage the transition from print to Internet." "The Internet is a wonderful place to be, and we're leading there," he points out.

  • Discovery Networks U.S. President, Billy Campbell, was "ousted" Monday from his post "amid a big shake-up at the company, along with four other senior executives. The changes were unveiled by Discovery's new president and CEO, David Zaslav, who was recruited this year by chairman John Hendricks from NBC Universal to replace longtime CEO Judith McHale. Zaslav is eliminating Campbell's position." The Hollywood Reporter also announced that other executives leaving include "David Abraham, president and GM of TLC; Maureen Smith, GM of Animal Planet; Dawn McCall, president of Discovery's international holdings; and Pandit Wright, senior executive vp human resources."

  • DCist reports that 94.7 WARW-FM is changing its format and turning green. "ARW-FM will be renamed 94.7 The Globe, CBS Radio's first environmentally-friendly "World Class Rock" station! 94.7 The Globe will operate using renewable energy to power its 50,000 watt signal. This move will contribute to lowering the threat of global warming through the purchase of energy resources generated by wind. Additionally, station vehicles will be replaced with hybrid models, and 94.7 The Globe will further its "green" focus by taking a number of steps on and off-air to consistently promote ways for listeners to live an eco-friendly lifestyle."
