"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Things You Would Have Missed Reading Romenesko....

From time-to-time, we seek to offer a round-up of information you would have missed if you only read media news guru Romenesko. As we've been tracking, the first media blogger whenever possible avoids linking to the unreliable, sketchy, and inaccurate verbal diarrhea that is the blogosphere. It's good that he's holding firm because, after all, this week's London bombings totally proved that the citizen journalism thing is soooo overrated.

Anyway, despite his best efforts this week, he was somehow tricked into linking to three "blogs": Wonkette, Keith Olbermann's Bloggermann, and Jay Rosen's PressThink.

Still despite all those links you might have missed a few stories if you've only been reading his super-duper no-longer-as-comprehensive-as-it-once-was site. For instance you would have missed:

  • Despite all of the coverage of the Miller/Cooper saga, you'd never know what Margaret Carlson told the court about Superdad Matt Cooper or what General David Petraeus thinks about Judy Miller.

  • You would have totally missed the nearly two-week long blogosphere controversy over Romenesko's salary, which even managed to bubble into the New York Times last weekend.

  • Lots of people got hired at the Post, ABCNews, and D.C. Style, and someone at Fox got a promotion. No one (as far as we know) got fired this week.

  • The New York Observer was redesigned, and Gawker scooped it.

  • The Washington Post staff will begin critiquing the paper.

  • ABC's Ann Compton won the presidency of the White House Correspondents Association.

  • And as much as you would have read about the controversy around the Kenneth Y. Tomlinson and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, you never would have learned his middle name.

  • And while you would have read some about the NYT and its love-hate affair with reporter Alan Feuer, you probably missed that the NYT is using Feuer's book to fact-check his article.

  • While none of us know what Jon Klein said to Roger Ailes over lunch at Michael's, you would have at least known they lunched.

  • Lastly, you would have missed the kerfuffle involving Chuck Schumer, ABC, and a plane.

Oh, and in the department of things you would have learned if you DID read Romenesko? Today you would found out that former USA Today reporter Tom Squiteri landed a job in PR. Unfortunately, that nugget comes nearly a month after we picked it up from the D.C. Examiner.

Better late than never, right?
