LA Herald Examiner's Almost-20th Reunion Party

1363502640_3ea4d54ad4.jpg

With L.A. media seemingly on its death bed, why not revisit an old ghost?

The Journalist from around the globe are expected to attend a party Thursday night recalling the venerable L.A. Herald Examiner, which shuttered not-quite 20 years ago.

WHAT: A photo-op before the start of A Return to Corky's: The Ultimate Herald Examiner Almost-20th Reunion Party. Journalists from all over the U.S., and around the world, gather to celebrate and recall the newspaper that was once L.A.'s second metro.

WHEN: Thursday evening, March 13TH, at 7 p.m. (program begins at 7:30 p.m.)

WHERE: On the patio of the Center for Inquiry, adjacent to the Steve Allen Theater at 4773 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027. Free parking behind the building

WHO: Los Angeles Daily News Editor Ron Kaye, former KCBS political editor Linda Breakstone, LA Times "Top of the Ticket" editor Don Frederick, Santa Monica City Councilmember Bobby Shriver, show business historian, Alex Ben Block, and others discuss the paper's lasting influence.

WHY: To recall a Southern California publishing tradition that dated back to 1871; to discuss how the Herald influenced both print and electronic media, and how its legacy lives in print, TV and online; to honor legendary former HerEx editor, James G. "Jim" Bellows.

FYI: It has been 19 years since the Herald Examiner last rolled its presses. Since then former employees have gone on to top positions at the L.A. Times, the Daily News, television, radio, online and many other places, some now serving in the government they once covered.

OF SPECIAL INTERST: The premiere of an original multi-media presentation featuring historic pictures of the Herald and its employees from the Los Angeles Public Library's L.A. Herald Examiner Collection and private collections. Most of these images have not been seen in over 20 years.
