Steve Scully and his mother

C-SPAN’s Senior Executive Producer and Political Editor Steve Scully is mourning the death of his mother, Betty Scully, who passed away on August 5. She was 90. Her funeral was Tuesday in Erie, Pa.

Scully is one of 16 children in a family with five sets of twins. Among the phone calls she received this past month included those from former President George W. Bush and wife, Laura. “She loved it!” Scully said, noting that his mother has attended a whopping 17 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinners over the years.

At the program’s close, Scully noted that C-SPAN coverage isn’t about hosts like himself, but the people they cover. But he allowed himself a personal note this time, ending the program with a special message for his mom.
