Current TV and We Act Radio’s David Shuster officially tied the knot this weekend in Manhattan with Kera Rennert, a freelance writer/producer for CBS News and Discovery Channel. The pair got engaged last summer and already has a baby on the way.
“Kera and I did not see one another on Saturday until we walked down the aisle,” Shuster told FishbowlDC in an email. “When Kera appeared and began walking down the aisle, we both cried. Who knew that your favorite cable news bad boy could be such a sap?”
They married at the Angel Orensanz Foundation for Contemporary Art, an ornate synagogue in New York City. Constructed in 1849, this gothic, cathedral-like space is the oldest surviving synagogue building in New York City. It’s the same place actress Sarah Jessica Parker and actor Matthew Broderick married in the late ’90s. “Kera looked magnificent in two Ines Di Santo gowns. One for ceremony, the other for the reception,” Shuster explained. “I wore a black tuxedo/white tie.”
As we mentioned, Rennert is… pregnant, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it from the pictures. Talk about sex and the city. The spawn of Shuster and Rennert is due in late June.
The live band, “which was AWESOME,” relays Shuster in all-caps, was the Erik Marshall Band from New York City. The couple was announced at the reception to the Led Zeppelin‘s “Whole Lotta Love.” The first dance was “Songbird” by Fleetwood Mac. And in a nod to their affinity for head banging 80′s music, we closed the night with Guns N’ Roses “Welcome to the Jungle.”
We can only hope and pray that Shuster did not succumb to his penchant for playing air guitar at weddings. Side note: An attendee at the wedding emailed us to confirm: “David Shuster was most definitely playing a mean air guitar with a Slash-like gusto rarely seen among Washington cable punderati (or is it hosterati?) No word on whether he’s growing out the bangs, though.)”
Shuster’s brother, Jon Shuster (not a rabbi) of Oakland, Calif., co-officiated with a longtime friend of Kera’s, Cantor Brian Shamash, of New York. There were roughly 190 guests in attendance, mostly close friends and family of Shuster and Rennert.
