FBDC Tweeterboard: Washington Anchors

Yesterday we took a look at the social standing of the DC publications, now it’s time to turn our attention to those network anchors who call our fair city home. FishbowlDC took a look at the Twitter followers of some of DC’s biggest television personalities, and here’s what we found:

The takeaway: David Gregory is by far the biggest DC anchor on Twitter. He has more than twice as many followers as  Wolf Blitzer, who is on-air five times a week, and almost as many as George Stephanopoulos who hosts the #1 morning show as well as a Sunday show.

1.) George Stephanopoulos** – 1,916,693 (ABC)
2.) David Gregory – 1,644,571 (NBC)
3.) Wolf Blitzer – 685,893 (CNN)
4.) Bret Baier – 434,564 (FOX)
5.) Chuck Todd – 401,637 (MSNBC)
6.) Greta VanSusteren – 384,423 (FOX)
7.) Jake Tapper – 313,717 (CNN)
8.) Chris Matthews – 223,796 (MSNBC)
9.) Brian Stelter** – 213,499 (CNN)
10.) Andrea Mitchell – 206,013 (MSNBC)

13.) Gwen Ifill – 68,919 (PBS)
14.) Bob Schieffer – 51,292 (CBS)
15.) Judy Woodruff – 15,884 (PBS)
16.) Chris Wallace** – 0 (FOX)

**Brian and George are both married to New York, but cheat with DC on the weekends. Also, George is on network TV quite literally every day, which other anchors in this category are not. Chris is based in DC, but does not have a Twitter account. His show, “Fox News Sunday”, does, however, have 74,457 followers.
