First and Second Lady Announce New Initiative

This adorable picture will grace the cover of Parade magazine’s April 24th issue. First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Lady Jill Biden talked to the magazine about their new initiative, Joining Forces.

The White House announced the initiative today, the purpose of which is to support military families. Parade‘s press release says Obama and Biden plan to “educate, challenge, and encourage action from all sectors of our society” in support of the families of service men and women.

Mrs. Obama told Parade about her husband’s presidential campaign: “Everywhere I went there were military spouses, and their stories took my breath away – the pain of multiple deployments, trying to keep the family afloat. I remember sitting and crying with a group of them.”

Joining Forces is Obama and Biden’s first joint project, and the cover is their first cover together.
