Gridiron Picks Sen. Klobuchar as Dinner Speaker

Gridiron members have been informed that Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.) will be the Democratic speaker at their March 9 Spring dinner. The notice lists her credentials, explaining that she won a second term in November with 65 percent of the vote. She’s a former county prosecutor. Her father, Jim Klobuchar, is a long-time journalist in the Twin Cities.

The club expects to announce a Republican speaker soon. They’re also hopeful that President Obama and first lady Michelle Obamawill join them this year. They’ve had spotty attendance over the past four years.  Sen. Obama spoke at the club’s Winter Dinner in 2004 (GOP speaker was Mitt Romney, Obama and Michelle danced), and the Spring Dinner in 2006. President Obama spoke at the club’s Spring Dinner in 2011.
