Politico reports that CNN's David Gergen, WaPo's Chris Cillizza, Newsweek's Jon Meacham and Howard Fineman, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Cynthia Tucker, Politico's Mike Allen, NPR/Fox's Mara Liasson, TPM's Josh Marshall and NYT's David Brooks, Andy Rosenthal, and Gail Collins joined the President, David Axelrod, Anita Dunn, Bill Burton and Robert Gibbs for an off-the-record lunch today.

Lunch apparently lasted two hours and green salad, halibut and pear tart were served.

Former campaign embeds Scott Conroy and Shushannah Walshe's book on Sarah Palin is out this week, and friends and colleagues feted the CBS reporter and former Fox reporter at last night's DC book signing and party.

Conroy and Walshe signed books and read an excerpt to a crowd at Borders downtown. They also took about 30 minutes of questions from the audience, which will air on C-SPAN's Book TV this weekend.

Earlier yesterday, Conroy visited his old stomping ground at Georgetown University. He had planned to do a book signing, but the campus book store was not selling his book (yet)-- a funny story he shared over drinks last night's book party at Agraria.

Steve Chaggaris, Rob Hendin, Jane Chick, Michelle Levi and Fernando Suarez were there from CBS. Sasha Issenberg, Mike Memoli, Jonathan Martin, Mike Madden, Erin McPike and Peter Hamby were also around to celebrate at Agraria in Georgetown. Attorney Ben Ginsburg, who was national counsel to the Bush-Cheney and Romney campaigns, also attended.

"Sarah From Alaska: The Sudden Rise and Brutal Education of a New Conservative Superstar" is published by Peter Osnos' PublicAffairs. And Chaggy, McPike and Hamby all got shout-outs in the book's acknowledgments after the jump.

IN MEMORIAM

Politico: John W. Mashek, a political reporter who covered every presidential election from 1960 to 1996, died of a heart attack Tuesday. "He was one of the great political reporters of the last quarter-century," said Jerry Seib, executive Washington editor of The Wall Street Journal.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, on Dumbarton Street between 27th and 28th Sts., N.W., in Georgetown.

Look out John King and Dana Bash... there's a new couple in CNN's Washington bureau.

Champagne bottles were popping in the "State of the Union" offices earlier today to celebrate the engagement of Ted Metzger and Jessica Rummel.

Metzger is a producer and Rummel is a production assistant for King's Sunday cable show.

We hear Metzger proposed while the couple was on vacation last week at the Cornwall Inn just outside Hershey, Pennsylvania. It involved all of the traditional romantic elements- candlelight, roses, and of course, the diamond ring. The next day they went to Chocolate World at Hershey Park and then straight to Pittsburgh to tell the bride-to-be's family in person.

The wedding is slated for spring 2011 in Washington. Congrats!
