WaPo Taps Va. Bureau for New Congressional Scribe

WaPo has gone within to its Richmond Bureau to find a new congressional reporter. That journo is Roz Helderman. She came to the publication in 2001 as a summer intern. Brass calls her a “terrific colleague.”

See the memo…

We are thrilled to announce that Roz Helderman will join our congressional team. Roz is a smart, news-oriented political reporter with a mind for
policy and a keen understanding of what it takes to write for the web and the paper. She’s also a terrific colleague and will fit right in with the best congressional team in town.

Roz comes to National after two exceptional years in Richmond, where she took a leading role on the 2009 campaign for governor and all of the
changes that have come since. Roz also led the pack on coverage of Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, breaking the news that he had advised universities to rescind policies barring discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, which became a national story. And she has taken the lead on
Virginia’s suit challenging the constitutionality of the federal health care overhaul, as it moved from sideshow to a main thrust of the legal assault against the law.

Roz started at the Post as a summer intern in the Loudoun bureau in 2001. She covered education in Loudoun before moving in 2006 to cover government in Prince George’s County.

Please join us in welcoming her to National.
