Frank McCourt’s Sordid Baseball Anthem

With this morning’s news that Dodgers owner Frank McCourt has craftily penciled in bankruptcy, the robber baron continues to sully the reputation of one of Major League Baseball’s most storied franchises.

The Dodgers, once virtually synonymous with the sentiments expressed in a certain time-honored refrain by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer, now have an uglier anthem. As long as the current seventh inning stench lingers, it’s easy to imagine phony Boston baloney McCourt nasally twanging–behind the facade of false PR apologies–his own version of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game:”

Take me out to the shell game,
Take me out with the con.

Buy me some parking and cracker reps,
I don’t care if I ever get caught,

Let me loot, loot, loot from the home team,
If they don’t survive it’s a shame.

For it’s one, two, three strikes, you’re in,
At the old shell game.
