Dylan Stableford at Yahoo! News caught up with Gustavo Almodovar, a former Central Florida news reporter whose 2008 farewell compilation video was rediscovered last week by Reddit users and launched anew.
The 46-year-old Almodovar now works in the field of medical marketing and tells Stableford he’s not sure the above video is worthy of the viral madness. The clip is certainly a reminder that there’s often no logical explanation for what catches fire on the Internet.
At the end of the article, Almodovar, a native of East LA, says his now-infamous Orlando WFTV Channel 9 baritone sign-off was inspired by an LA colleague:
“There was an anchor at KCBS in Los Angeles in the late 1990s who, with his authoritative baritone voice, would deliver the toss to me in much the same way as you see in the video,” Almodovar said, “without raising the eyebrow or turning his head.”
Anyone know who he’s referring to here?*
