Long Beach Press-Telegram Ditches Sports, Photo and Feature Departments

Gary Scott has been keeping tabs on the latest chaos at the Long Beach Press-Telegram. Turns out the paper plans to eliminate its sports, photo and feature departments and farm the work out to the P-T‘s sister paper–the Daily Breeze in Torrance. The move will cost 14 journalists their positions.

Scott has the details:

There are five photographers, six sports writers and columnists, and three features department employees who will be terminated and then asked to reapply for jobs at the Daily Breeze. There will be one fewer photographers, two fewer sports slots and, apparently, no features openings at the Breeze.

On top of that, executive city editor John Futch and day city editor Rose Fitzpatrick were let go.
