Ric Flair Mulling Lawsuit Against Grantland

Wrestling legend Ric Flair, real name Richard Fliehr, is not happy with a recent Grantland story, which among other things suggests that Flair suffers from alcoholic cardiomyopathy–a disease which weakens the heart muscle and arises from abuse of alcohol. A representative for Flair spoke with TMZ and categorically denied his client suffered from the disease–though he didn’t dispute the multitude of other tragedies documented in the piece.

“While the information gleaned from courthouse records may be credible, Mr. Fliehr is currently evaluating his legal options with respect to falsehoods in the story, specifically the untrue statement that he suffers from alcoholic cardiomyopathy.

“Our client understands that these allegations are part of the territory when you are not only famous, but a living legend.”

Given that much of the reporting was drawn from court records, we’ll have to see if Flair goes ahead with the suit, or if this is just damage control.
