VH1 Pop Up Videos Reboot to Target Rap, Hip-Hop

Has it really been ten years since Pop Up Videos was on the air? Man, do we feel old.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Marisa Guthrie reports exclusively today that the show is coming back to the VH1 airwaves, with a great new mandate. The program will now get to lampoon rap and hip-hop music videos, which were previously off-limits because they were part of the MTV sister curriculum. Co-creator Woody Thompson (pictured) is back on board with the new version, and it sounds like he’s been itching to bust out the witty bubbles:

“I have sat on the sidelines for the last decade and watched as everyone and their brother has ripped off Pop Up in some way or another, with the Internet coming out of nowhere and Twitter being hauntingly familiar and all of these devices that are using snarky, pithy text,” said Thompson.

New elements such as user-generated pop ups and interactive polls will now be part of the mix. Snoop Dogg, you’ve been warned.
