New York-based American Media Inc., the publisher of such magazines as Flex and Shape, announced an undisclosed number of layoffs today, FishbowlNY has confirmed.

AMI chief digital officer Joe Bilman tells FishbowlNY that the layoffs were part of a move to mobile devices.

“There were some layoffs today and they were part of the restructuring plan as we prepare for our major investment in digital,” Bilman says. “We have committed $30 million over the next three years to really focus on and grow our digital properties.”

A tipster told FishbowlNY that among those let go was the head of digital operations.

“I’m the head of all digital, and I’m still here,” Bilman counters.

Bilman says no additional rounds of layoffs are planned at AMI.
