Meet AP’s New Music Editor

AP Appointment FekaduOne of the signature elements of Associated Press is the clever, wink-wink lede (when and where appropriate). So we thought we’d take a look at some of the notable recent handiwork in that department by Mesfin Fekadu ["Mess-phin Fah-KAH'-doo"] (pictured), newly installed as the wire service’s music editor:

NEW YORK (AP) — Robin Thicke may be pleading to get his wife back, but he needs to work on getting his fans back, too.
[July 9, 2014]

NEW YORK (AP) — Britney Spears is going to hit you one more time, Las Vegas. A bunch more times actually.
[May 11, 2014]

LOS ANGELES (AP) — For more than a year, Justin Bieber has had more tabloid hits than Billboard hits: The singer’s music career has taken a backseat to his wild boy antics, and a new arrest for a DUI charge marks a new low for the Grammy-nominated pop star.
[January 24, 2014]

The 27-year-old Fekadu has been with AP since 2008. He was previously a music writer and entertainment producer, and will remain based in New York City.

P.S. For another 2014 article lede, Fekadu included the obligatory John Travolta/”Adele Nazeem” reference. God help us if the actor ever has to introduce Fekadu.
